We love to judge others. Prepare our special dyes and cast people in their respective and appropriate moulds. Any individual that does not subscribe to our dyes are perpetual offenders. And the sculptures that waver a bit from its original mould are branded warped.
An appropriate widow has to shun bright colours. Dance and music are for the young. Sex is a taboo. Displays of conjugal behaviours are disapproved. The old have past their age to have fun and the young have to be reigned in.
There is this immense scrambling to snuff out anything that spells fulfillment. We thrive in seeing people struggle.
Is being intelligent and having the power to think being suitably used? Isn’t the fungus that’s growing on our mind-set becoming deadlier?
When will we unlearn to cast the first stone? When will we accept people who are different with contrary ideas from ours? When will we acknowledge that someone else might be right? When will we stop calling people “freaks”?
Most importantly…when will non-english speakers intelligence not be judged? The snobbery that I see around me sometimes stifles!

Hiya Ms. Bunty.....:-)
Well from my aloof perch things look pretty rosey..... Perhaps it is my upturned nose that smells the coffee...... Judging people is an art form we all share, I say this because no matter how accepting we are... we ALL typecast, those who say they don't are either kiding themselves or are far from streetwise.
Suppose I am in Lahore and lost. I see a bunch of people boosting AK47's in the air in front of my path, naturally I walk across the street and hurry around the corner, passing a newstand to see a headline "PAKISTAN GIVES EACH RESIDENT A GOLD BAR"....ooops I was wrong.... the residents were hoisting their rifles to celebrate.... but should I have continued into the "celebration'? Nah..... I was smart to cross the street even though I was wrong.
I find those that are intolerent of others language to be unilingual, and often undereducated. Certainly if they spoke more than one language they would have more respect for the difficulty of understanding and articulating in more than one language.
Sex is not a taboo in my book, yet it is a poor substitute for love or making love. Widows with and of a particular faith shun colors.. and that is either by their choice of embracing a faith or from peer pressure. Presure from one's peers should be laughed at (silently of course).
Birds of feather flock together.....yet I like to dance to a different drummer as long as I do not infringe on anothers rights. Yeah perhaps I am a freak, fungus or warped.....our expression is "Fug um if they can't take a joke"
As for PDA's ( public displays of affection) I have never been a fan of that.... although a little action in a parking lot full of parked cars or on a soon to be possibly crowded elevator can be stimulating (or so I am told..LOL) ...I wrote a Blog a while ago about being told for the first time that I was "too old" for an object of my affection and how it spanked my ego. Usually "reigning in" is more of a reminder from those that care for our youth. This is often done from love or friendship rather than from a malicious attack.
Seeing people struggle I personally do not enjoy unless they have earned their difficulty through not learning societies lessons. Unfortunately there are many who " go with the flow" (this is why we were rewarded with George Bush for a second four years) " The blind leading the blind is our term or dumber than a box of rocks....
Finally casting the first stone. Sun Tsu said surprise is 50% of the battle ( we call it "cold cocking" someone) for instance tapping them on the shoulder and punching them at full throttle. Greed or envy are two common reasons we see this character expose itself in people, and yeah it is ugly ....and uglier if it is for petty self serving reasons.....
My problem is often rather than turn the other cheek when confronted with a self serving swine is that I feel an obligation to society to absorb the hit and provide the retribution... Yep it is easier to let it slide and move on.. however that is a value decision risk verses reward. Sometimes most of us take a stand.. as said in Network "Go to your window and open it and shout " I am mad as Hell and I am not going to take it anymore" Definately no one appointed me judge, jury and excecutioner, However when I am the brunt of the infraction or witness to it I often dust off my bullwhip and chase down the assailant...The moral of the story is that we learn from our mistakes or at least the smart ones of us do. Hugs, Spencer

Hi Buns,
Isn’t the fungus that’s growing on our mind-set becoming deadlier? - This is the catch line I think. We are getting more gross everyday, thanks to the world around us that is in India and a shameless politicians! I don't agree with bias agaist the non-English speaking people, but I don't support raj Thankeray's or for that matter his bl**dy not uncle's stand about Amchi, maharastra, aamchi marathi either. Both ends are the pits!

Hullo BB
" We love to judge others " . There you level a serious charge on mankind as a whole. It is not as ghastly and deplorable a business as you suggest. It is the basic instinct of self-preservation at work. Unless we instinctively guage a new person how do decide as to whether we have a friend before us or foe.
Oh my lovely child, my adorable doll. My wonderful mother or - an absent tyrant - an apology for a mother. Oh my prince charming. You sleazy scoundrel. Father of the nation - Bapu. A megalomaniac, a mass murdering dictator - Pole Star of the Aryan Race - Hitler.
Is not the process of thinking based on assimilation of facts and their clasification, not different from judging others.
Two cents is one of your favourite phrases, isn't it? Thoughts are infinitely more precious than that, even if those be packed with criticism and denunciation.
The way out is to so strengthen our spirit and so completely discard our ambiguities that we can face an avalanche of adverse judgement with equanimity.

Dim zee,

A man who calls himself "dim" and links the word "freak" to an endearment perhaps needs to go back to english class and this time pay attention to the course and not the teacher....lol....
Many of us here have a self depraving kind of humour and theres something freakingly endearing about the whole thing.
You jolly well know what I meant but refuse to acknowledge that you understand or think about it deeply. Wonder why? Life is fun when one goofs around without losing the larger picture I suppose.
Bunty.
PS : Thanks for letting me know in your own convoluted way that you care...ROFL! I do too...

Hiya Kals,
Thanks for being here. This blog is quite cryptic..agree....lol! Didnt feel like writing reams and therefore just left it at that.
The discussion in the resposne section seems to stir towards usage of particular languages which was not the point I was trying to make. Of course there is racism everywhere and most of us have been at the giving or receiving end at some point or the other in some form.
Most recently I witnessed a couple sniggereing at an old women who spoke chaste punjabi. These supposedly high class folks were either Punjabi's themselves or perhaps Sindhis. This incident and many more before this made me think where we are heading with our respective mind sets.
As we progress in our lives, there is very little regard for the people who have been less fortunate or from a different background and hence are "different".
Instead of sweeping these issues under the carpert by passing blanket statements like snobbery is everywhere etc...we must reflect within and rectify that what is decaying. Just my 2 cents.

Hiya Supriya,
Thanks for dropping by. I appreciate your POV but this blog is not to promote Hindi as a language per se. I was just trying to drive a point about how petty we get to make ourselves look important. The higher we climb social ladders the less regard we have for people around us.
