We love to judge others. Prepare our special dyes and cast people in their respective and appropriate moulds. Any individual that does not subscribe to our dyes are perpetual offenders. And the sculptures that waver a bit from its original mould are branded warped.
An appropriate widow has to shun bright colours. Dance and music are for the young. Sex is a taboo. Displays of conjugal behaviours are disapproved. The old have past their age to have fun and the young have to be reigned in.
There is this immense scrambling to snuff out anything that spells fulfillment. We thrive in seeing people struggle.
Is being intelligent and having the power to think being suitably used? Isn’t the fungus that’s growing on our mind-set becoming deadlier?
When will we unlearn to cast the first stone? When will we accept people who are different with contrary ideas from ours? When will we acknowledge that someone else might be right? When will we stop calling people “freaks”?
Most importantly…when will non-english speakers intelligence not be judged? The snobbery that I see around me sometimes stifles!

This is just very very very true...I see it everywhere, everytime...
We tend to slot people ....I have seen this happening all around me. If a slot is available then well and good otherwise ...I have seen people getting uncomfortable when they cannot find a proper slot...
And yes the English speaking....and non-english speaking..well Not knowing Hindi is one thing I can understand that but to be proud of not being able to speak Hindi is yet another issue...

Hiya Bina,

Thanks for your visit and your lovely response. Language is definitely the medium wherein you have the necessary tools to express your feelings with deeper intensity. And some expressions in hindi and urdu...wah! Kya kehna! Alfaz nahin hai mere paas unke tareef main bayan karne ko.
Nevertheless, this blog was not to beat to pulp the english language. I'm particularly in love with it and express myself the best in this form of communication. The idea was just to point out that knowing the queens language does not mean the IQ is higher. The snobbery around people who prefer to talk in this language even if addressed in a regional tongue most amuses me.

Hi Bunty
Very inspiring and thought provoking blog.
As you have said rightly if every one is accepted what they are for without judgment, all of us can lead peaceful life.
That’s what I wish for. Yeah, we see snobbery every where . Many think as if speaking English is the greatest thing on this earth and if a person fails to express in English properly, would be treated as dumb.

i stumbled upon yr blog n love your free thinking
thoughts are thoughts and language is just a mere vehicle used to convey them
be it angrezi or hindi
beautiful thoughts expressed in any manner will always remain so-in fact certain ideas expressed in hindi/urdu gives such nuances that r not possible in english.

Hey Bunts,
... it's wrong to generalize...:-)
What was that? Loud thinking, eh?
I agree... we are not comfortable until we can slot a person into some or the other category or stereotype. Like: "Oh, he's a Gujju, they are money-minded, loud and love to eat" or "She's a woman, the only thing she can drive is her husband mad"....though the second one is mostly true...
And that English thing is so bloody true... when I came to Bombay first, I was actually awed by the way the kids here spoke, with an accent and all that.... till I paused long enough to listen to what they actually spoke of...the accent covered most of their grammatical or factual errors... it was mostly a facade...:-))
Nice one! Thought provoking...
cheers,
Keshav
